Vendor Spotlight

Vendor Spotlight: Drunk On Decor

Being from New Mexico we already know trends seem to get to us a lot later than everyone else. For all things trendy and over the top, we got you covered. We had the pleasure of interviewing one of our favorite wedding stylists. This husband/wife duo are taking over the industry with their out of box ideas. Although they are a duo, we all know who the creative brain behind the styling is. Dive in to this fun interview.

Tell us about yourself!

A day in the life of Lilli: Talks way too fast. Iced coffee, hot coffee, you name it coffee, I drink it black. Unless I’m feeling frisky, then I’ll add some almond milk. Josh is also apparently my hype man.
A day in the life of Josh: Eat, train, workout, eat, train, budget and repeat. Chocolate milk is a go to and is secretly rain man. I am apparently Lilli’s hype man.

How long have you been in business?

Drunk on Decor will celebrate its 1 year anniversary in July!

What services does Drunk on Decor offer?

Furniture and decor rentals, lounges, custom installations, full design (to include invite suites, websites, bridal and bridesmaid styling along with groom and groomsmen styling), planning, coordination and event styling for elopements and weddings. We also offer a doggie courier service that will take your fur babe(s) to join you for pictures, and then take them back to the comforts of their own home. We do require a meet and greet beforehand for the doggie courier!

What got you started in the industry?

After planning our own wedding, and shedding blood, sweat and tears (yes all of that) and on top of that including all the meetings, dealing with keeping the budget up to date, coordinating with tons of vendors and literally pulling off a “we did it ourselves wedding,” we can 100 percent say we get it. Would we do it again? Yes times a thousand. But we would never want anyone to have to go through what we did. Add in the fact that Southern NM lacks big time in the (trendy as in anything but plastic) furniture rental category, that was the cherry on top for us. We had to outsource basically EVERYTHING. So now we’re trying to change that!

What does Lilli like to do in her spare time? Hobbies, interests?

LOVE to cook! I’m actually getting my Masters in English Literature, so tons of reading.

What is the most rewarding part of what you do?

Hands down seeing my couples faces after designing an event for them.

Can you recall a time when you had a chaotic event? If so, how did you get through it?

I feel like every event always will have some sort of a chaotic moment. I mean all you can do is take a step back, reassess the situation, and then move forward to fix it. It’s never going to be so gargantuas that it can’t be fixed with a little teamwork.

To what do you attribute your success?

My husband and my family. Gary, my FIL, is Drunk on Decor’s carpenter, and he’s always ready for a good challenge! If you hire Drunk on Decor, you’re hiring a husband and wife team. With Josh’s expertise in excel sheets, budgeting and math and my expertise with design and management, I would say that we make a pretty flawless team. I’m sure my previous clients can attest to that too.

What sets you apart from others in your area of business?

Please tell me who else offers a doggie courier service for a wedding? That’s what I thought.  Nothing more.

If someone were wanting to book you for their special day, how far in advance would they have to do it?

1 year for weddings and preferably 6 months for an elopement that requires traveling. If the elopement is local, give me 2 weeks and I’ll make it happen.

Are you flexible with traveling for a wedding?

Hell yes! I’m always down for a good old fashioned road trip, or to hop on a plane. It’s always fun to work with and meet other wedding vendors from out of state too.

What trends do you foresee this upcoming wedding season?

Tons of velvet! Velvet dresses, napkins, table runners, you name it. If it’s velvet then it’s in. Dried florals or foraged florals are super in. Although I don’t usually come out and say it, but my household is as zero waste as much as possible. So anything that helps our planet and that reduces the use of plastic, is ALWAYS going to be the number 1 choice and is always, and will forever be a trend. I could honestly talk about all the ways to have an eco friendly wedding for like DAYS. Day of morning yoga is also becoming super popular. Guests LOVE it and it definitely helps carve out time to help calm those day of jitters. Welcome boxes are in. I LOVE putting together a good welcome box. I’m your girl if that’s something you’ve been thinking about!

What has been your most “out of the box” request?

Honestly, I haven’t had too many out of the box requests. I feel like most of the time I’m the one proposing the out of the box ideas to my clients! Luckily they always trust me, and let me run free with them. So the wildest one so far was a free standing 8 foot tall, 14 foot wide, sliding barn door install, and YES it is available for rent!

Any tips or advice you would give to a bride and groom when in search of event styling for their wedding?

Make sure you click with your event designer/coordinator/planner! This person is going to be your go to. You will become best friends over the span of the year. My clients literally have 24/7 access to communicate with me. Do the math, and that’s a ton of time spent together and words exchanged.

Now, if you’ve had the pleasure of meeting Lilli, I know you heard her voice when reading her responses lol.
